My wife Louise and I live in White Lake, South Dakota where we have been farming and raising cattle since 1983. We got tired of getting chased by cows when they were calving, so we decided to do something about it.
We built our first Calf Carrier to mount on our John Deere Gator, but because it was made out of metal, it was too heavy for the side-by-side to carry. We decided to lighten the load by building it with aluminum, where we discovered we had something that really worked well.
Our main focus is safety- you put the calf in the carrier, the momma watches you pick it up and put it in the carrier. She then will smell it, and most of the cows will follow you. The carrier is also quiet and doesn’t rattle, ensuring that the cows remain calm and are less likely to get spooked and run.
The carriers are easy to install and remove from side-by-side by only needing to remove the two pins. The carriers weigh approximately 150 pounds.
We have been using the Calf Carrier on our farm for four years now and won’t calf without it. It is the safest way to pick up and tag calves without getting took, which takes the stress off of both you and the momma cow.
Our Calf Carrier can be mounted on most side-by-sides. We have mounts for John Deere Gators, Rangers and Honoda 1000’s. We also offer scales to weigh calves in the carriers if needed.
Say Goodbye to a stressful calving season!
